Compatibility calculator: two Day Masters, one read
What the calculator reads (and what it leaves to the full chart)
The tool computes the sexagenary day stem for each date — the Day Master — and then reads only the pair, in the classical order:
- Combination first (合). Two of the ten stems form one of the five classical unions — 甲己, 乙庚, 丙辛, 丁壬, 戊癸. If your pair is one of them, that bond is the headline, and it has its own guide.
- Then generation (生). If one phase feeds the other, the pair has a Source relationship: support, learning, one lifting the other — read from the generating side.
- Then control (剋). If one phase governs the other, the pair sits on the Officer–Wealth axis: structure meeting resource. Demanding inside one chart, magnetic between two people.
Everything else — the other three pillars, element balance, both luck cycles — needs the full charts. For that, start with the ten Day Masters or just a free BaZi chart.
Questions people ask
How does the compatibility calculator work?
It converts each date to its sexagenary day (the same day-pillar computation as our free chart), takes the day stem — the Day Master — and reads the pair: the classical stem combination first, then the generating or controlling relation between the two phases. Date only — the Day Master does not depend on birth time.
Is this the same as the compatibility guide?
It is the interactive companion to it. The guide explains the five combinations and shows the full relation table for all ten stems; the calculator tells you which row of that table your own pair sits in — and links to the pages that read it.
Can a pair be “incompatible”, in this reading?
The tradition reads relations, not verdicts: a combination is a bond, generation is support, control is structure meeting resource — each with strengths and classic frictions. Classical readers weigh the whole charts before saying anything about a couple, and so should we.
